Suspended Coffee-Another Way To Give

Are you looking to do something kind for someone, but not exactly sure what to do, or do you not have a significant amount of money to donate to a charity? Try ordering a suspended coffee!

Suspended coffee is a new way to give in this seemingly unforgiving world we live in.  I have never heard of this until I came across an article that explained what it was.

Basically, when you go to a café, you order two drinks, even though you will only drink one.  You say something like, “One small coffee for myself, and one suspended coffee“.

That suspended coffee is then given to someone, perhaps a homeless person, who is looking for a warm cup of coffee, but cannot afford it.

Usually there are cafés that openly announce they are participating in the “suspended coffee” system.  However, you could also just go to a coffee shop and tell them you want to order a suspended coffee for either someone who cannot afford it, or just to pay for a stranger’s coffee because you want to pay-it-forward.

In a video I recently watched regarding this concept, there was a long line of customers, and each one ordered a drink for themselves as well as a suspended drink.  This means that there were at least 10+ suspended drinks waiting on the counter for anyone who needs a cup of warm coffee.

At the end of the video, a homeless man walked in and asked if there were any suspended coffees available.  Of course, there were several.

He was then seen being handed the cup of coffee, walking to a table, and drinking it slowly.  He looked incredibly appreciative to have a warm cup of coffee to sip on during what appeared to be a very cold day.

After watching that video, I realized, despite the naysayers, that this is something that homeless people will be grateful for.  If we can change someone’s day in a even small way, why not?

While it may not be food or money, it is still a way of saying, “I am thinking of you, and this is for you, with no strings attached. Enjoy.”

Something so small could go a long way to someone in need.

The next time I order a cup of coffee, I will order a suspended one as well.

I believe that if more people started caring about others, and doing more than just caring, but also helping in some way, even small, that this world could be a better place.  This is something I’ve been thinking about for awhile, how can we make the world a better place than it currently is? Especially for our children who have to grow up in such an unforgiving, scary world.

It starts with us, and rather than doing something big that would likely cost a lot of money, why not try to do something small, that could be huge to someone else? After all, it’s the small things that matter.
