The Real Reasons Behind My Coffee Addiction

I know that coffee is an addiction for many people, and it is because of the caffeine.  It is probably true that the main reason why I am addicted to my coffee every day is due to the caffeine.  However, there are definitely better reasons, in my opinion, for my insane obsession:

1.It tastes and smells so damn good!

2.I am a terrible sleeper.  Just smelling my coffee while it brews gives me a boost in energy.

3.It gives me a reason to sit on my ass, which is quite relaxing.  After I brew it, I sit at my kitchen table because of my OCD of having to be relaxed while I drink my coffee.  How does drinking coffee standing up relax a person? IT DOESN’T.

4.Apparently it helps boost memory.  I read an article that referred to a study in which the researchers found that drinking 2-3 cups of coffee a day increases short-term memory and can even prevent or reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s.  Cool!

5.I have it stuck in my head that drinking just one cup of coffee a day makes me approachable.  Ask my husband what I am like if I don’t get that cup of Joe in the morning.  It’s all a mental game, really.  I tell myself I am a nicer person with coffee, so I drink said coffee.  Thus, I become nicer.  Without it, I am short-tempered and just all-around pissed off.  My 4 year old said to me not too long ago, during a morning of no coffee, “Mommy, calm your tits!”.  That is a prime example of why I NEED my coffee.  No, she did NOT learn that phrase from me!

6.It was also mentioned somewhere at my favorite coffee shop (Latte Donatte), that drinking just one cup of coffee per day is good for your heart.  Not sure how, but apparently it is.  I’ll take any reason to keep drinking the stuff.

7.It gets me out of the house.  During the summer when I barely work, I tell my husband I need to go to Latte and get some work done for a couple of hours.  Want to know what I do when I get there? I drink my coffee and surf the internet.  Oh, and people watch.  Doing this gives me time to myself, gives me time to drink the best liquid in the world without children climbing on me, and makes the hubby deal with the kids for two hours.  WIN!

8.I get to see new places and try new drinks.  One of my most favorite things to do is to try new coffee shops and to see unique drinks they make that other places do not.  It really is fascinating to see all of the different drinks that can be made with a cup of coffee.

These are the REAL reasons why I drink coffee.   Of course, the taste ranks number one.
